On Monday, Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has submitted himself to the Police Headquarters after he was been captured in a viral video assaulting a Nigerian Policeman on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Seun Kuti claimed that Nigerian police officer tried to kill him and family members in the car. He further stated that he had adequate proof to press charges against the police officer.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, in a statement, threw his conduct under the bus and ordered the immediate arrest of the music star but reportedly not found at his residence in Ikeja Lagos State.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations officer, in a reactionary statement, stated that:
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of denigration of any person(s) authorized by law would not be allowed. He added that, assaulting a police officer in Nigeria, like most developed countries in the world, is a felony; punishable with at least three years of jail term.
“Unlawfully assaults, resists, or obstructs, any person engaged in the lawful execution of any process against any property, or in making a lawful distress, while so engaged; or
“Assaults, resists, or obstructs any person engaged in such lawful execution of process, or in making a lawful distress, with intent to rescue any property lawfully taken under such process or distress; or
“Assaults any person on account of any act done by him in the execution of any duty imposed on him by law; or”
