Losing someone so close is so hard – trails around with grief in waves, at any time. The shocking news of the passing away of the veteran Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, with a stage name as ‘Chief Kanran’ was a grim exposé that destabilized the Nigeria’s movie industry.
Chief Kanran reportedly died in Lagos hospital after a brief illness on Friday, August 15, 2025, a few days before his 70th birthday. Over the years, in memory of the deceased, he was known for kind and gentle demeanor with friends and associates in the industry, that fetched full support, particularly in Yoruba movies [both on television and stage]
You will recall how Chief Kanran and TAMPAN worldwide president, Otunba Bolaji Amusan showed much love to TAMPAN Canada chapter during its inauguration in November, 2019. May all the wonderful memories comfort everyone during this heartbreaking time.
The Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi was a staunch believer in the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

The Executive and all members of TAMPAN Canada Chapter hold him close in their thoughts and their prayers are with him and his families.

“On behalf of the Executives and entire members of TAMPAN Canada Chapter, we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of our beloved veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Olusegun Akinremi (popularly known as Karan).
“Chief Akinremi was more than an actor; he was a cultural icon who dedicated his career to showcasing Yoruba tradition and values. During his lifetime, he honored us with his presence at the Inauguration of TAMPAN Canada Executives in November 2019, where his energy, warmth, and humility left lasting memories.
“Our President, Temidayo Enitan (Starboy), described him as a good, positive, and energetic man who always preached peace and gave life to traditional and wealthy characters on screen.
“Our Deputy President, Otunba Kemi Agbeke, remembered him as a jovial and passionate actor who beautifully portrayed Yoruba culture, especially in his iconic royal roles, and a man of the people who used his art to promote our heritage.
“Our Publicity Secretary, Otunba Ayo Komolafe (Morocco), said of him:
“Chief Kanran’s love for and promotion of Yoruba culture is unmatched. His distinctive style and sharp humor will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.
“Chief Olusegun Akinremi (Karan) will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the unforgettable roles he played and the culture he helped preserve.
